We believe that:

• The responsibility for ensuring British Muslim children become ‘active’ citizens is a shared responsibility between children, parents, the community, madrasahs and the mainstream school sector
• It is essential to engage young Muslims at an early age and to instil Islamic values so that they recognise that their faith teaches shared citizenship values
• Debates and discussions around difficult and controversial issues faced by young Muslims will help provide them with citizenship education helping to challenge misguided and misinterpreted violent and extreme messages
• The success of this project is based on active participation of all key stakeholders from the project outset to completion, which means involving children, teachers, parents, Ulama (Islamic Scholars) and the community in meaningful discussions
• The processes involved are crucial to successful delivery. The materials and resources produced should be thoughtfully adapted to the needs of pupils/madrassah
• Muslim men and women should be equally and actively involved at all stages of the project.
